Potato... Potado...

So for the longest time I have been concerned with Olivia's speech. She talks in long paragraphs, sometimes you cant ever get her to be quiet. However, there are times when I cant understand her for the life of me. I know that this frustrates her at times, but I cant always count on big brother Gabriel to come save the day and translate for me. So a few months back I went the school district who were doing a pre school screening and she was directed to the NSSED (North Suburban Special Education). For the past 2 months or so they have been doing an evaulation process with her where they went to her school and watched how she interacts and talks at school, one time was a psychologist and one is a speech therapy. Today, the psychologist is over at our house to work with her and play games with her and on Tuesday the speech therapist is coming over to work with her as well. We are all still in the evaluation process but I hope that when its all said and done, they will be able to work with her and help her be able to communicate in a more effective way.
On another note, on Wednesday I have to go to Gabriels school for a meeting with his teachers, the school psychologist etc to see about getting him tested for dyslexia. I have brought this up with all his teachers starting in kindergarden. Even now, in second grade, he has a hard time with writing some letters and numbers backwards and his writing is a huge struggle for him. Last year they worked with him on his reading that seemed to improve dramatically. The only reason that I want him tested is because I have it and it wasnt until my junior year in high school that I found out. I dont want that to be the case for him. If he does have it, I want him to be able to find ways to cope and to learn ways around the disablity to he can learn and grow from it. I told the school psychologist that the only reason that dyslexia has come up is because of my own struggles. I hope that this meeting will help us figure out what the best steps to take.
Well... I guess thats all. Ill post what happens after his appointment.. until then....just another day of a new year!
